Franklin Chesterfield
By: Colin Jackson & Jared Courchene
Once upon a time, in a small town not too far away, lived a young boy named Franklin Chesterfield. Franklin wasn't a regular young man, while his peers were running around and playing tag and other things, Franklin would spend his days with his head in books and his mind slowly wandering off to far places he dreamed to see. Franklin was short with shaggy blond hair. He wore the same raggedy red sweater and torn jeans every day and was very soft spoken. When Franklin was very young his parents got into a terrible accident which they did not survive so Franklin was forced to live with his old aunt Helen. Helen was a mean woman. She only wore her hair in a tightly wrapped bun along with a withered long black dress.

Not only was aunt Helen a mean woman in general but she was especially mean to Franklin. Everyday Franklin would sit in is room and try to drown out the constant screaming and nagging brought on by his forced legal guardian. But Franklin was able to find joy in the smallest places. One of Franklin’s biggest obsessions was with toast. Nothing special, nothing unordinary, just regular buttered toast. Franklin loved toast so much he would dream about it. Unfortunately however Franklin Aunt Helen rarely let him enjoy his favorite snack.

“Franklin put down those tattered books and go wash those crummy dishes you’re always leaving everywhere!”  She would scream.

But Franklin never retaliated. He did as he was told and returned to his room to wait for his Aunts next demand. But Franklin’s life was not all misery, when Franklin felt like getting away he had his own sanctuary, a place where he could go and experience the world through his eyes without being disturbed. And that’s where our story begins.

One day Franklin was finishing washing the kitchen floor when his Aunt Helen walked slowly through the door way with her arms crossed. “Franklin?” She said.

Franklin looked up startled without saying anything while still holding the wet cloth in his hand.

“Would you like some toast?” Helen continued.

Franklin looked up at his Aunt like a young Oliver Twist and said softly “Yes please.”

“Well you have a lot of chores to do before that, young boys need to learn discipline if they want to succeed.” Aunt Helen replied menacingly.

Franklin put his head down and continued his chores holding on to his built up aggression and bottling it up inside. Franklin finished his chores and went to bed still angry from the incident a few hours earlier. So angry he felt he needed to get away. So he slowly lifted up his bedroom window, climbed down the nearby storm drain and ran as quickly as he could towards the woods. Franklin’s special spot was a big boulder surrounded by low hanging trees in the forest circling his aunt’s house. It was a 5 minute walk to the spot and Franklin could find it in his sleep. But on this particular night something amazing happened. He was making the same walk he always did, around the tall trees and through the long grass when he heard something strange in the bushes. “Hello?” said Franklin.

But there was no answer. “Is somebody there?” Franklin asked again.

But there was still no answer. As he crept slower and slower towards the grass he started to see the light. A florescent green light illuminating from the same small bush Franklin had seen a thousand times before.  And as he crept slower and slower toward the light, he finally saw it. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Without talking or even moving Franklin and the creature had an instant connection.  Franklin new he had to take it home. So he did. Franklin spent all night with his new friend, just thinking how lucky he had been finding such a magnificent thing in the most unlikely of places. Franklin knew he couldn't let aunt Helen know about it. She would ruin everything like she always does. So Franklin hid it. And it stayed hidden for months. It turned into Franklin’s obsession, like he was addicted to it. Every day he had to spend time with his friend or he would start get goose bumps all over his arms accompanied by cold chills that crawled up his spine. It was his everything.  But one day His aunt Helen got suspicious. “What do you do all day just sitting in your room?” she would shriek.

“Nothing.” Franklin would reply and slowly continue up the stairs.

Franklin new that the day where Aunt Helen and his friend would meet was coming soon but He had no idea when. Until one day Aunt Helen's curiosity got the best of her. Franklin was in his room sitting crossed legged face towards his bed when Aunt Helen barged in. “What are you doing in here!” she yelled at him abruptly

“Nothing, leave me alone!” Franklin snapped back.

Aunt Helen was taken back. She had never heard her nephew speak to her in that tone.

“That’s It get down stairs and do the dishes this instant!” she replied, trying to take back control of the conversation.

“No I won’t!”  Franklin shouted back. Looking like all his emotions were about to explode through him in a very bad way.

“Do it now” Aunt Helen said quietly with her eye brows furrowed.

Franklin stood up walked past his Aunt Helen and closed the door behind him. Aunt Helen thought to herself and wondered why Franklin would be sitting alone facing the bed. And being her nosey self she just had to know. So she slowly fell to her knees to look under the bed. While this was happening Franklin was walking down the stairs towards the kitchen. But then he suddenly heard a big scream come from his room. He turned his head to see a bright green light fill his room and seep through the cracks of the closed door. Franklin turned around slowly, walked down the tall staircase, walked into the empty kitchen and treated himself to a couple pieces of freshly buttered toast. The End

"Yo bro," said Jeff while fist bumping his buddy.

"Your tattoos look hella tight," said Phil while feeling Jeffs arms.

"Ya! Can you believe I got these swag tattoos?" He asked.

"Hell naw man, it's so swag! I want one too," Said Phil.

"You should totally get a tribal tattoo like mine dude!" Demanded Jeff.

While motioning to his arm "You really think so bro?" Wondered Phil.

Putting both hands in the air "Hell ya dude!" Jeff screamed.

"Well where should i get it done?" Phil said skeptically.

"I got mine done at yolo swag ink, so we could go there my bro could hook it up," while  referring to his tattoos, Jeff said.

"Then let's roll bro!" Yelled Phil pointing at the door.

TMNT

A fitting throwback to when me and the boys dressed up as TMNT for Halloween.

Thinking about dialogue.

1. Me and Colby went to the gym, followed a few people around up stairs and listened to some people in the power mech hallway. We listened the gym people for about 5 minutes, the people we followed upstairs for about 5 minutes also and the people in power mech hallway for a brief minute. The conversations were between 3 groups of different people we didn't know. It felt like we we shouldn't have been listening but at the same time it was funny.
2. Some people like to use sound effects while talking, example "just whip the ball at him like whoosh" and when regarding a sock conversation you can see how boys who normally wouldn't care about it they would love to hear it from a girl.
3. Creeping on people and hearing them talk helps expand your dialogue because not all people talk the same as you.
4. Personality and character are revealed through conversation because most of the time you can judge how someone will speak by the way they look, but in some cases that is not true at all.
5. The conversation becomes less intimate and becomes people trying to be more funny or show of rather than showing their feelings through a personal one on one conversation.
6. There tends to be a leader/leaders in the conversation and everybody else seems to talk about what the leader is saying.
7. Texting people tend to let there feelings out more, maybe this is because they don't have to see the persons facial expression which could lead to them getting hurt.

Huskies lacrosse.

Pretty depressing photo, that game we lost in the provincial finals. It was the last quarter of the game and it was tied. There was about 10-15 seconds left on the clock when the ball comes rolling to me and I put it in the net and we were sure that we won.. The other team West K calls a stick check where they look at the stick that scored the goal and see if it's legal, I knew my pocket was fine but the only thing I didn't have was a butt end. Something covering the end of my shaft.. The goal was disallowed, them we lose in the 3rd overtime. One of the most devastating things that's happened to me for sure. I will always hear butt end jokes from the guys I know on the other team and the occasional from my own team.

Imagery paragraphs

1. Why did you select this passage?
I picked it because it immediately made me imagine what it would look, feel and sound like.
2. What type of imagery is most common?
For the quotes I picked I think kinesthetic  was the most common although I see it as the most challenging to write about, I can feel exactly what they were describing.
3. what is the best snippet of imagery within this passage? Why is it so effective?
I think the kinesthetic imagery when it says how Noah's arm was probably numb and I knew exactly what it meant and I could relate to it right away.
4. Is the imagery positive or negative? How do you know? Give some words as examples to support this.
I think most of the text is neutral because I couldn't find any words that support a negative or positive effect.
5. What mood/emotion is being created by the author? How do you know?
The author is trying to make us feel bad for Sadie (Plath) because in the full quote she was having a bad dream about her dead family.
6. What is the purpose of this piece of imagery? The purpae of this piece of imagery is to give more detail to Sadie's dream and give the reader a better understating of it.

Quickwrite - alien stick up.

"Don't tell them where you are" whispered the blue man. I had no say in what to do because he was pointing a gun straight at me. I was talking to my family on the phone and the only thing they wanted to know was my location, I simply told them to not worry and that I'll be home soon. I couldn't figure out why the blue man had kidnapped me and what he and his monkey wanted with me. The monkey smelled horrendous, like it was bathed in dirty water and wiped down with dirty clothes. This blue man and his gun was nothing like I've ever seen before, and whenever he talked it's like the movement of his mouth didn't correspond with what I heard. "Let's go now" he demanded. I didnt know where we were or where we were going but we all left the crowded phone booth, I wasn't sure if it smelled worse than the monkey or not. So we started walking, it was a rainy night and we seemed to go on forever. We were in the middle of nowhere, and finally the man yelled "STOP, now start digging". This was it I thought I'll never get home to my family. Well I knew I was gonna die, I decided to try and go out with a fight. I swung my shovel at the monkey and struck him in the face, it hit the ground hard and wasn't moving. Now I had to try take out the towering blue man, but he was already gone. I was sitting in the middle of the desert alone, I look over to the monkey and it was also gone, I made my way home and me and my family moved towns and I tried to forget what happened.

Quickwrite - Island

It was a beautiful island! We never got to meet the people who sold it to us and me and my friends Ashton, Dirty Dan, Colin and Colby all decided to chip in only a dollar each to buy the place! It was weird they only sold it to us for 5 bucks but who can complain? It's a freaking island I mean that's pretty neat. We were finally all heading out there in order to check it out and have a little vacation, It was pretty far out in the middle of no where with no cell service. We were finally getting there and it cost us 00 times more to get there than it did to buy it so we were ready to party. At first the island seemed pretty nice, lots of trees and some creepy caves for exploring, then we started notice some strange things a lot of our stuff was going missing.. No matter we were having fun! Then while we were all just walking around when we notice a cute little monkey! Colin stepped up and tried to feed it a banana, then without all of us thinking it would happen the monkey ate Colin's hand. Soon more monkeys come from smelling the blood, the next thing we know he's dead. Didn't matter though the rest of us got away safe in my helicopter.#784

Quickwrite -Minions

If I had a set of minions for a week I would try and live that week up to the fullest, I would live like a king! I would make them do the basic things in life for me, feed me, bathe me, and maybe even do my homework. I don't know if they would be very smart, based on the movie I would say they aren't too intelligent but that doesn't matter as long as my homework's done. On day 1 we would all go out and have fun on the beach. On day 2 we would go to an amusement park for the whole day! On day 3 we would just have a loaf day and just watch movies. On day 4 we can clean the whole house. On day 5 we would go to a big sporting game. On day 6 I would let the minions do whatever they wanted. On day 7 I would throw a HUGE going away party for the little minions, they would realize they love me so much and stay forever. The end.

Six Word Memoirs Debrief.

What did I learn about storytelling?
I learned a few things about storytelling through six word memoirs, I learnt its actually really hard to think of a solid story in only 6 words. I usually had over 6 words and it had me thinking of coming up with the same sentence but shorter and still getting my point across. I also learned that instead of  coming up with a 6 word story then matching it with a photo, I  found a photo I wanted to use and then just tried to think of a six word memoir that worked. It was a very long process making 8 different ones but it made me a better storyteller.
Where did i show my knowledge about using storytelling skills?
I used my knowledge of storytelling skills through my punctuation and when I had to use a comma or a period to make it more powerful. The power of the punctuation and how it can alter the sentence and how you interpret it. I used it really good on my 7th memoir "If your not first, your last." it controls the way it separates being first and last.
What did i learn as a reader, writer, thinker and storyteller?
As a reader I learned that 6 words can be the difference between a good story and a bad story, it can show many different ways of telling a story. I learned as a thinker that it literally takes a lot of thinking in order to making a decent story. I learned as a writer that I can't half ass it and to take some time to actually think about what I'm trying to say.

A lax photo from last month, we didn't do entirely well but it was a solid tournament towards a really good cause. The tournament was in Minneapolis and me and Colin went it was fun.

Quickwrite Detached.

It was my third and final trip to space. It was 1 day before we were set to return to earth, I was doing the usual business of taking photos of the large red planet that we have been orbiting. The red planet seemed to be very dead and was really boring, nothing exciting ever happened, but the next day I won't forget. We were almost ready to leave and I was out there again busily taking photos when I noticed a small dot that looked like it was leaving the planet, it came closer and zoomed passed us, I  was detached. As i was floating away slowly getting further and further from my spaceship utterly helpless. The small dot that went by so fast I couldn't make out what it was I assumed it was a ship from the planet because it flashed as it went by. Before I knew it I couldn't see my ship at all, immediately thought I was done for then boom. I was aboard the ship that I expected to have doomed me in the first place. Abducted. Then I awake in my home, no recollection of what happened on the ship what happened?
